SAA implements new rules for cancelled flights
With immediate effect, SAA will no longer allow any open air tickets. SAA, have now instructed us that at time of cancellation of flight, we have to put the new travelling date into the reservation straight away or else that air ticket will be forfeited.
Qantas introduces fees for unaccompanied minors
A supervision fee for unaccompanied children travelling on certain domestic and international flights will be charged. The fee will apply to tickets issued in Australia and New Zealand but not for bookings made in South Africa. If the parent/guardian/responsible adult is travelling with the unaccompanied minor but is seated in a different cabin, the supervision fee will still apply.
Thai Airways cancels flights from S.A
Thai Airways will no longer be flying from South Africa as from the 14th of January 2015.
SAA & SA Express Lounge Changes
Unfortunately SAA Voyager members travelling in economy class on the SAA codeshare flights with Emirates from Dubai will no longer be able to use the Marhaba Lounge in Dubai. This includes Voyager Gold, Platinum, and Lifetime Platinum. Another lounge change is to SA Express’ business lounge at Bram Fischer International Airport in Bloemfontein, this lounge has been terminated.
Flyafrica flys between Lusaka and South Africa
Namibia flyafrica, a
member of the flyafrica.com family, will launch flights between Johannesburg and Lusaka from early next year.
Air New Zealand to codeshare with Singapore Airlines
Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines have confirmed the launch date for their alliance, with codeshare flights going on sale on both airlines’ services between New Zealand and Singapore from September 25th next year. The alliance will see the Star Alliance carriers operating one return service each per day on the Auc kland-Singapore route and Singapore Airlines operating a daily return service between Christchurch and Singapore.
Kenya Airport to get revamp
Kenya has signed a financing agreement with the French Agency for Development (AFD) to modernise Moi International Airport in Mombasa. Work at the airport will begin in January 2016. Operations will not be affected during the renovation process and the airport will remain open through out.
New hotel for Cape Town
The Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group has announced the opening of the 122-room Park Inn by Radisson Cape Town Newlands, located at the foot of Table Mountain.
Sun Square Cape Town opens after revamp
Tsogo Sun has relaunched
the De Waal Cape Town hotel in Gardens as SunSquare Cape Town, following a R35m refurbishment and
rebranding. The 40-year-old property had been given a new lease of life with a more contemporary style and modern features.
Airlines Charging for No Shows
Please note that most airlines are charging a fee for no shows if you do not cancel the ticket before flight departure. Different airlines have different rules, i.e. Emirates Airlines must be cancelled at least 4 hours before departure. The charge is +- R1 500 depending on the class booked. This penalty will be charged upon rebooking if the ticket is re-useable. All booking classes although in economy have different rules. We suggest you check the rules of your ticket with your consultant.
UK eases transit visas for South Africans
As of the 1st of December, South African nationals who hold a valid visa for Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the USA will be able to use them to transit airside via the UK to anywhere in the world without obtaining a Direct Airside Transit Visa. Travelers who hold visas to these countries can transit the UK (airside) given that they provide an expanded list of exemption documents in place of a Direct Airside Transit Visa.
