British Airways

British Airways customers will be spoilt for choice this winter, with two additional new routes launching from Heathrow from October 25th British Airways will start flying three times a week to Reykjavik in Iceland and twice a week to Salzburg in Austria, from December 5th. The additional routes will see the number of new destinations launched from the airline in 2015 rocket to 20, with eight of them flying from Heathrow.

Compagnie Africaine d’Aviation

CAA now accepts Diners, Master and Visa cards in IATA BSP South Africa. CAA flies to all domestic points in the DRC using a fleet of 7 aircraft including B737, A320, Fokker 50. Flights between Johannesburg, OR Tambo (JNB) and Lubumbashi (FBM) is operated by CAA on behalf of CAA subsidiary Fly Congo. Baggage allowance is 23 Kgs and excess baggage is $50 for up to 24 Kgs.

Uganda terrorist threat

Uganda is boosting security measures following fresh threats made by Somalia’s al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab rebels, A statement made by the police on Saturday 16 May said a new video allegedly from the Islamists and urging attacks in Uganda and Burundi have been circulated online. Travellers are advised to remain vigilant at all times.

The univisa between Zambia and Zimbabwe has been successful and will be extended to Namibia, Botswana and Mozambique, Zambian.

United Kingdom

A new departure lounge is due to be opened at Bristol Airport, according to BBC. Part of the extended terminal building, due to fully open in July, it is part of efforts to reduce congestion and increase passenger capacity. The airport currently handles 6.3 million passengers a year but has planning approval to expand to 10 million a year.

Italy

Rome’s airport is reportedly asking airlines to cut back flights to Fiumicino by 40%, authorities are not sure how long this will last, but some flights could be cancelled or moved to other airports as a result. Additionally, staff has been complaining about the smell in the airport caused by cleanup operations following the recent fire. Sensitive travelers may need to take precautions.

CemAir increases flight

CemAir will introduce additional flights between OR Tambo International and Margate on June 22, operating a same-day service – an early flight out to Johannesburg and returning to Margate in the early evening. Passengers can now book online ahead of their CemAir flights. In addition, flights have also been integrated into the Expedia and Travelstart platforms. The carrier capacity has also increased from a 19-seater to the Dash 8, a 37-seater aircraft.

Ebola in Italy

The World Health Organization confirmed that an Italian nurse has been diagnosed with Ebola after volunteering at an Ebola treatment center in Sierra Leone.
