Australian Visa

The Visa and Immigration Section at the Australian High Commission in Pretoria is experiencing a high volume of applications for the Christmas holiday peak period. As a result, the Commission has requested that visa applications are lodged two to three months prior to the date of travel to ensure the visa is issued in a timely manner. The current visa processing time sits at one month however, that time is expected to extend as we approach the peak period.

Warning to Kruger Park Visitors

Visitors heading to the Kruger National Park via Sabie should be aware of volatile conditions in the area. According to members on the SANParks – Kruger National Park Facebook group, cars passing through the town were attacked with stones by protesters challenging service delivery issues in the area. The town of Barberton is also affected. Visitors have been advised to use alternative routes.

Goodbye Roaming Fees – Cell C

Cell C customers will soon be able to use their cellular network service anywhere in the world, just as they would in South Africa without incurring roaming costs. The ‘Wi-Fi Calling’ functionality automatically connects mobile phones to Wi-Fi hotspots anywhere in the world. Once connected customers can then make calls and send SMSs over the Wi-Fi network, without having to connect to data roaming. Only Cell C customers in possession of a Wi-Fi Calling-enabled handset that is connected with a Cell C USIM card will be able to make use of the service.

British Airways Reduces Cape Town Flights for Coming Season

British Airways will cancel two of its weekly services between London Heathrow and Cape Town International Airport from the 27th of March 2016 for the SA winter season. Flight BA045 LHR-CPT will be cancelled on Thursdays and Saturdays, while return flight BA044 has been cancelled on Fridays and Sundays. The new flight schedule will see BA0058 depart Cape Town at 19h30 from Sunday to Friday to arrive in London at 06h15. On Saturdays, BA0058 will depart Cape Town at 20h20 to arrive in London Heathrow at 07h15 the next day, and BA0042 will depart Cape Town at 21h50 to arrive in London at 08h30 the next day.

More Roads to be Disrupted During Eco Festival

In addition to road closures in Sandton’s CBD during October, lanes along Republic Road, William Nicol and Sandton Drive will be converted into dedicated public transport lanes for the duration of EcoMobility Festival. Road use will also be changed on some of the streets in the Sandton CBD itself.

Rome to Increase Tourist TAX

Rome is considering raising taxes for visitors during its jubilee year in 2016. The Holy Year, which is considered a year of mercy. It is expected to bring thousands of extra pilgrims to the city next year.

Dengue Fever Outbreak in Delhi

Delhi is currently battling its worst outbreak of dengue fever in five years. More than 1 800 cases have been recorded in recent weeks, compared to 1 695 cases for all of 2010. Hospitals and clinics across the city have been inundated with patients, putting a strain on emergency services. Travellers are advised to take extra precautionary measures against mosquito bites.
