Uganda Visas Cost Double

From 6th of July, South Africans travelling to Uganda can expect to pay R1 500 for a single-entry visa and R2000 for a multiple-entry visa. These prices have been significantly raised from the previous R600 for a single-entry and R1 200 for a multiple-entry visa.

Korongo Airlines Baggage Allowance

Effective as of the 1st of July 2015, baggage allowances will be applied to passengers travelling the route FBM JNB, MJM JNB and FIH JNB. This standard free baggage allowance is applicable to adults, children over 2 years of age, and infants paying and occupying a separate seat. Economy 2 x 23Kgs and Business 2 x 32Kgs.

Ebola Re-Emerges

At least three new cases of Ebola have been confirmed in Liberia. This follows the 9th of May’s announcement by the World Health Organization declaring the country Ebola-free.

New E-Toll Tariffs

SANRAL has implemented new e-toll tariffs on the 49 GFIP gantries around the Gauteng Freeway. Customers will pay the “standard tariff” as per the Government Gazette. Hertz will, however, be adding an administration fee onto the “standard tariff” to enable them to recover the system development costs and also the resources necessary to manage e-toll compliance. Hertz does not apply “capped” toll charges. Possible delays in e-tolling information from SANRAL could result in charges (if incurred) being billed up to 60 days post-rental.

Additional Safety and Security Measures to Prevent Stowaways

After receiving reports of a stowaway incident out of the O.R Tambo airport, the Airport Authority immediately introduced additional safety and security measures. These measures include increased guarding of the perimeter, long range video surveillance, deployment of a K9 dog unit on the airside of the airport and the monitoring of the flights at the threshold of the departure runway between sunset and sunrise.

Malawi Announces Tit-for-Tat Visa Regime

The government of Malawi will introduce a visa regime for nationals from countries that charge a visa fee for Malawian nationals. This includes the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East. South African passport holders do not require a visa to enter Malawi.

Air Mauritius Ups All Luggage Allowance

From the 22nd July, Air Mauritius will allow passengers to take two pieces of luggage to Mauritius. This special offer is based on the ticket issue date, and Air Mauritius will apply this luggage piece system between Mauritius and South Africa, including all domestic points in South Africa. Passengers travelling in economy class will be allowed to travel with two pieces of luggage weighing no more than 23kg each. Business-class passengers will be able to travel with two pieces of luggage not weighing more than 32kg each.

Unaccompanied Minor Handling Fee

Effective from the 1st July 2015 there will be an unaccompanied minor servicing fee charged by Singapore Airlines of USD100 per origin/destination for unaccompanied minors aged 12 to 18 (i.e. age group where unaccompanied minors handling service is optional). There is no charge for unaccompanied minors between ages 5 and under 12 years old.
