Please note that all car rental companies that are bill back to Grayston Travel are set up to have super cover only. The difference between standard and super cover is the excess amount that the driver will have to pay in the event of an accident or the vehicle been stolen. Although super cover is more expensive up front the excess is less. If the driver waivers any of these options please note that driver will be liable for the whole amount of the damages. Please do not waiver any insurance’s under any circumstances.

CEMAIR to Fly Bloem-PE

Cemair will launch flights between Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth on the 4th of October. The twice-weekly flights will be operated by a 19-seat Beech1900 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, flight 5Z0132 will depart Bloemfontein at 11h00 to arrive in Port Elizabeth at 12h00. Return flight 5Z0131 will depart PE at 13h00 on the same days to land in Bloemfontein at 14h00. Launch fares will start at R1 599 for one-way tickets.

British Airways Cuts Economy Food Offering

British Airways has cut its food service and will no longer provide two meals to economy travellers on flights under eight and a half hours. The apparent cost-cutting measures also apply to journeys of less than seven hours for premium economy passengers. Instead of two full meals passengers will get only one and might have to make do with snacks if they get hungrier later in the flight. The choices of alcohol and complimentary snacks will not be affected.

Yellow Fever Outbreak in Africa

A large-scale yellow fever vaccination campaign is already under way in the DRC, with 14 million people set to be immunised against this acute viral disease. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced that an emergency meeting will take place next week to discuss counter-measures for a yellow fever outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola, an estimated 500 individuals have already been killed across the two African countries. Which was warned last week that the outbreak could soon spread globally if not contained.

Tourists Slapped with ATM Fees in Mozambique

The two largest Mozambican high street banks Barclays and Millennium BIM, have introduced withdrawal fees for people using foreign cards at their ATMs across Mozambique. Barclays charges a flat fee of MZM130 (R26.00 or $1.9) and Millennium BIM charges MZM150 (R30.00 or $2.1). The fee is per withdrawal and is not a percentage of the sum withdrawn and only applies to cash withdrawals at ATMs and not on retail purchase transactions at POS machines. The charges do not apply to cardholders of other Mozambican banks.

No Visa-Free Entry to UK for African Countries

Please be advised that reports circulating on social media claiming that the United Kingdom will grant visa-free entry for 18 Commonwealth African countries including South Africa, have been found not to be true. Tourists still need to apply for a UK visa via the UK government’s Visas and Immigration website.

Cathay Pacific Increases Baggage Allowance

Cathay Pacific will increase its checked baggage allowance for all passengers worldwide, effective for tickets issued or exchanged after the 15th of September. Passengers in each class will be allowed an additional 10kg of checked baggage. Members of Cathay’s loyalty programme Marco Polo Club will also receive an extra allowance. Silver members will receive an extra 10kg, Gold members an extra 15kg, and Diamond members an extra 20kg.

Home Affairs Opens Online Applications to All Citizens

Home Affairs has confirmed that the eHomeAffairs portal service has now been opened up to all South African citizens, 16 years and above who want to apply online for the new Smart ID Card and Passports. eHomeAffairs allows the applicant to download and fill-out the e-application form, make an electronic payment and book an appointment to complete the application process at their nearest participating bank. The system was launched four months ago to citizens between 30 and 35 years old. It is now open to all citizens who bank with the ABSA, First National Bank, Nedbank and Standard Bank. Currently, 12 branches of these banks are connected to the system in Gauteng with 1 branch in Cape Town (Canal Walk Standard Bank).
