Fastjet to Launch Domestic Flights to Mozambique

Fastjet will be the first low-cost carrier to launch domestic flights in Mozambique. The launch of these flights comes as the airline positions itself for growth.

New Security Check for US Travellers

New United States security measures are in effect for all flights entering the US. Those travelling are advised to leave sufficient time to clear screening as travellers may encounter some scrutiny with regard to electrical devices and may be required to undergo an interview procedure by airline staff. Travellers are urged to be co-operative and to remove all electronics larger than a mobile phone from their carry-on bags and place them in the bin provided in the way that it has always been done as this will help reduce delays. Some airlines are urging travellers to be at the airport at least three hours ahead of their US bound flight. Travellers flying back to the USA will require extra time at their airport of departure.

Nigeria to Introduce Biometric Visa Requirements

South Africans are required to provide their biometrics fingerprints and facial photograph as part of their visa application for Nigeria. Biometric enrolment requires an applicant to visit the Nigerian Consulate in Johannesburg in person.

Malaria Warning in Mpumalanga

Cases of malaria have been reported in Mpumalanga and as a result the Kruger National Park is advising visitors to the park to take necessary precautions. Precautions include the use of prophylaxes and vaccinations in consultation with doctors, the use of repellents on the skin, wearing long-sleeved clothes when outside, keeping window gauzes and doors closed at all times and ensuring that air-conditioners in the chalets are fully functional.

UAE E-Cigarettes

Travellers should be made aware that smoking e-cigarettes at entrances of shopping malls in Dubai is illegal. Shopping centres and malls in Dubai have been directed to encourage their security personnel to report people caught smoking in banned areas to the police. The Dubai Municipality has stressed its seriousness in implementing the ban on electronic cigarette smoking in public places and shopping malls. Some shopping centres have been allowing electronic cigarette smoking at their entrances and this is considered illegal. A decision in 2009 to ban smoking in public places also includes electronic cigarettes. According to the federal anti-smoking law, any person found smoking in prohibited places can be fined up to Dh1,000.

Air Seychelles Suspends Madagascar Flight

Air Seychelles will suspend its services between Seychelles and Madagascar due to the plague out break in Madagascar. This follows the guidance and request from the Seychelles Public Health Authority.

British Airways Increases Flights from SA to the UK

British Airways has announced it will add 680 seats a week between London and Johannesburg from November the airline will begin flying a double-daily A380 service other than Los Angeles and Johannesburg will be the only British Airways’ route with two daily A380s.

New Requirements for Trips to Robben Island

Effective immediately all travellers booked for trips to Robben Island must provide identification when purchasing tickets. Proof of identification can consist of identification documents (ID), passport, birth certificate, drivers licence or certified copies when clients check in for their trip. According to Robben Island Museum the new requirement forms part of an ongoing endeavour to provide guests with the best possible service and is aligned to best practices and auditing requirements.

Qatar Airlines Increases Frequencies to Eastern Europe

Qatar Airways has doubled frequencies to a number of destinations in Eastern Europe and the Nordics. Commencing mid-December the airline will introduce an extra daily flight on each of the routes using an Airbus A320 offering an additional 132 daily seats in both directions.
