Travelling Tips to Remember

Passports – in order to travel your passport needs to be valid for 6 months after the date of return. Visas – remember to apply for your visa well before your planned trip in order to ensure sufficient time to process the visa. Check in times for flights: Domestic flights 1 hour before the flight. Regional and International Flights 3 hours before the flight.

Venezuela Announces Currency Changes

The Venezuelan government has announced it will replace the country’s highest-denomination banknotes with coins. It hopes swapping the 100-bolivar notes will help to stop smuggling and tackle shortages of food and other items.

DHA to Move Forward with Passport Changes for Minors

The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has announced that from February 2017 it will be possible for South African passport holders to have parents’ details printed in the passports of minors obviating the need to carry a birth certificate.

Minister Rejects KAZA UNI-VISA

Botswana’s Minister of Environment Wildlife and Tourism, Tshekedi Khama said Botswana has no plans to participate in a uni-visa with KAZA countries. The reasoning given is that KAZA fail to manage and protect their wildlife. KAZA uni-visa is a multinational visa project by Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe that seeks to promote tourism and facilitate free easy movement of tourists across the countries’ borders.

Tourism Levy to be Introduced on Accommodation in Mozambique

Mozambique parliament authorised a tourism fee on accommodation for every tourist visiting hotels and lodges in the country. The tourism levy has been proposed as a fixed fee of 1% per bed night. Government officials will now meet with the private sector to discuss the way forward. Mozambique Tourism Authority said the money raised from the tourism levy will be used for promotion and participation in international events and campaigns to promote Mozambique as a tourist destination.

Airlink Launches PZB-CPT Services

Airlink will launch a new route between Pietermaritzburg and Cape Town on the 6th of February 2017 .The airline will offer a daily return service operated by a 37-seat Embraer 135. Flight SA8721 will depart Pietermaritzburg at 07h00 and arrive in Cape Town at 09h10. Flight SA8724 will depart Cape Town at 17h35 and arrive in Pietermaritzburg at 19h30.

Rwandair Cuts JNB-LUN Route

RwandAir will no longer operate its Johannesburg-Lusaka route effective of the 15th of January 2017.

Strike Action to Affect Flights

Flights in Italy will be disrupted by industrial action in a couple of weeks. Alitalia workers will strike for 24 hours on the 20th of January 2017. Meanwhile workers from Milan’s Malpensa and Linate airports will also walk out between 14h00 and 18h00 on the same day. The situation will be monitored.

Increased Security Following Instanbul Attack

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is warning of an ongoing police operation in Istanbul following an attack on the Reina nightclub. Travellers are advised to follow any advice issued by the local authorities. The FCO warns that the attacker is still at large and urges extra vigilance and caution at this time.
