British Airways Cabin Crew Announce Further Strikes

British Airways mixed fleet cabin crew have announced a further six days of strikes next month. The workers will walk out on the 5th,6th,7th and 9th, 10th and 11th of February 2017. The action follows two previous strikes by its mixed fleet crew who are pushing for higher pay. Passengers would be able to travel to their destinations. However delays and some cancellations are likely.

Large Yellow Fever Outbreak Confirmed

Brazil’s Ministry of Health has ordered 11.5 million doses of yellow fever vaccines to reinforce its stock piles due to the largest outbreak of the disease the country has seen since 2000. Around 5.5 million of those doses have already been sent to five states that have confirmed cases or are at risk.

Air France And KLM Up Baggage Allowance

Air France and KLM have implemented a new baggage policy for economy class travellers, to and from South Africa and Namibia. Passengers can check in two pieces of luggage, each item can weigh 23kg. The new baggage policy only affects economy class and the excess baggage fee in economy class is now US$200 (R2 723) for the first extra bag.

SAA Baggage Allowance

SAA has increased excess baggage charges on flights from the UK to South Africa. The price of excess baggage for business-class passengers is now £90 (R1 490) per item. Economy-class passengers are charged £50 (R828).

Emirates Announces Croatia Flights

Emirates will launch daily flights to Croatia from the 1st of June 2017. EK129 will depart Dubai at 08h15 and arrive in Zagreb at 12h20. Return flight EK130 will depart Zagreb at 15h35 and arrive in Dubai at 23h05. A Boeing 777-300 aircraft will operate the route configured with 12 lie-flat seats in first class, 42 lie-flat seats in business class and 310 seats in economy class.

DHA to Boost or Tambo International Airport Immigration Capacity

The South African Department of Home Affairs will increase the number of immigration officials employed at OR Tambo International Airport for the 2017/2018 financial year. This comes after the Department of Home Affairs deployed 92 additional staff at OR Tambo International Airport, A second increase in staff capacity is planned for the 2018/2019 financial year, with an additional budget allocation of R17 million made available by National Treasury.

British Airways Cuts Food On Short Haul UK Flights

British Airways has cut complimentary food and drinks on short-haul services from the UK. Passengers travelling from South Africa on British Airways or flying locally on the airline’s flights operated by Comair would not be affected. The cuts only applied to short-haul services from the UK.

Fastjet Suspends Two Routes

Fastjet has suspended two of its Johannesburg services. Fastjet will suspend its Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar flights into and outbound from Johannesburg. Fastjet did not provide details as to when the flights would be re-introduced to its network.

Direct Flights From or Tambo to Zim Lodge

New flights will transfer clients from Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport to Buffalo Range in the Zimbabwe Lowveld. The service is available for a minimum of two passengers staying at least three nights at Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge or Tented Camp, Gonarezhou, Zimbabwe. The flights will operate between the 3rd of April and the 28th of September excluding 22nd of June to the 6th of July.

Entry Requirement Regarding E-Cigarettes

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office warns that anyone entering Hong Kong with e-cigarettes containing nicotine will need a medical prescription indicating that they are for personal use. However if the e-cigarette is nicotine-free and for personal use no medical prescription is needed.
